In 1937, Nestlé scientists perfected a powdered coffee product that was introduced in 1938 under the brand name Nescafe - the world's first commercially successful soluble coffee. It became so popular during World War II that for one full year the entire output of the Nescafe plant in the United States (more than 1 million cases) was reserved for military use only. Since then, Nescafe has become one of the world's best-known brands.
